The 2024 Honda Civic comes in sedan and hatchback forms. This is more versatile than the 2024 Hyundai Elantra, which is only available as a sedan. Both models have roomy passenger cabins with seating for up to five adults. In sedan form, they can also carry 14 cubic feet of cargo. However, the 2024 Civic hatchback offers 25 cubic feet for those needing more cargo capacity. It also comes with folding seat-backs and a 60-40 split folding configuration in higher trims. This feature is also available for the sedan so that long objects can easily be transported.
The 2024 Civic also leads the way with plenty of thoughtful convenience features. All trims have a deep glovebox and a large center console storage compartment. The front and rear doors have storage bins as well. Higher trims have a sunglasses compartment and an automatic-dimming rear-view mirror. Buyers can also opt for HomeLink® remote capability.
The 2024 Civic also offers some luxury appointments, such as dual-zone climate control, a power driver seat, and leather seat upholstery. Buyers can also get a one-touch power-operated moonroof. Some of these features are also offered for the 2024 Elantra. Both cars also have Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® as standard. They include Bluetooth®* as well, for wireless audio streaming and hands-free phone connectivity. Venturing up their respective trim ladders brings digital instrument clusters and wireless phone charging pads. The 2024 Civic even gets a pleasant Bose premium speaker system for the top-tier trim.
Two engines are available for 2024 Civic buyers, and they are trim-specific. The lower two trims have a 2-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine. This engine makes 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. It drives the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. The remaining two trims have a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. It also powers the front wheels via a CVT gearbox.
Some trims of the 2024 Civic add steering wheel-mounted gear shift paddles. These allow the driver to select from an array of simulated gear ratios. These variants also have a three-mode drive selector, with Econ, Normal, and Sport modes. Furthermore, idle-stop and Honda’s Eco Assist™ system are standard. These help save fuel. Higher trims also add a remote engine starting function. Hence, users can pre-cool or pre-heat the 2024 Civic’s interior before entering the vehicle.
The 2024 Elantra range also has two engine choices. Most trims feature a 2-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. This engine drives the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. Meanwhile, the N-Line trim packs a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. This engine uses a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox to drive the front wheels.
Honda offers the 2024 Civic Si and the 2024 Civic Type R as high-performance derivatives. These have upgraded powertrains, enhanced suspension, beefier brakes, and 6-speed manual transmissions. Hyundai also has the 2024 Elantra N as a high-performance option.
The 2024 Honda Civic has plenty of safety features under its Honda Sensing® suite. All trims have automatic emergency braking, traffic jam assist, a road departure mitigation system, and adaptive cruise control. Lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and a full suite of airbags are also included. Higher trims gain rear cross-traffic alerts and blind-spot monitoring. The 2024 Elantra isn’t so well equipped, as most of these features are optional or only present for higher trims.
The 2024 Honda Civic wins our Civic vs. Elantra match-up. It’s a well-equipped, safe compact car with gutsy yet efficient powertrains. So why not test-drive a 2024 Civic and make up your mind? Visit Hendrick Honda Easley in Easley, SC, and let us get you behind the wheel.
