As we inch closer to the grand reveal of the 2024 Honda Prologue, Honda, the renowned Japanese automotive giant, is set to embark on its maiden voyage into the electric vehicle (EV) sphere. In a strategic announcement made in April 2023, Honda detailed its blueprint to achieve carbon-neutral status by the year of 2040. The journey kicks off with the Honda Prologue, leading a series of budget-friendly EVs, crafted in collaboration with GM. This move complements their already impressive line-up of hybrids, emphasizing their goal to transition their entire fleet to EV models by 2040.
The first checkpoint in Honda’s zero-emission plan is ramping up their EV output to a staggering 2 million units annually by 2030. To do this, Honda has selected Ohio as the hub for its EV production. The brand will retool the Marysville Auto Plant, Liberty Auto Plant, and a specialized powertrain facility, readying them for the Honda Prologue's assembly and the anticipated mid-to-large size EV set for a 2025 debut. In tandem, Honda is gearing up to modify its Saitama Factory in Japan to operate entirely on renewable energy sources. These moves highlight Honda's dedication to eco-friendly manufacturing, echoing the worldwide call to cut carbon emissions.
In unveiling its visionary roadmap, Honda has also outlined two additional objectives. Firstly, responding to the escalating demand for sustainable transport alternatives, Honda aims to roll out no less than 10 electric motorcycle variants worldwide by 2025. Simultaneously, the automaker is setting the stage for its EV charging solutions, anchored by the innovative Honda SmartCharge system, promising users an optimized charging experience.
For the time being, Honda's hybrid vehicles continue their pivotal role in global carbon reduction. Swing by Hendrick Honda Easley in Easley, SC, to explore the hybrid range.
